Hollah Hollah! I need some advice... We really need to go ahead and get Claribel a convertible car seat and am wondering what you have and what you like about it! So, give me a shout out and let me know. We have a 4Runner so space isn't a huge issue, but it ain't yo mamma's cadillac either :) I want one that she will be able to be in until she is ready for a booster. Ok... let me know and talk amongst yourselves. Thanks!

We have a Britax Marathon for both kids and have been very happy with it. They can use it from 5 - 35 pounds rear facing and 22-65 front facing. So, for us, we may never graduate to a booster because we have small kids. The only 2 negatives are price and that it is not a good carseat to fly with because it is heavier and larger. So, we bought a Cosco Scenera for $50 for when we travel. Check out babycheapskate.com to read reviews and watch for sales.
Sorry, I don't have any specific models to recommend as we haven't bought any seats in a couple of years. However, I do know the recommendations are changing for when to move baby from their rear-facing seat. Please watch this video. You could go to some of the sites quoted in the video for more info. Shop for rear-facing seats that will hold her as long as possible.

We love our Britax Marathon. Did lots of research, read a billion reviews, and settled on this one when James was ready. It has been great so far -- I have zero complaints.
We bought Elizabeth the Brittax Boulevard and we love it. It will hold her up to 65 lbs and ranked really high up there for safety! I hope this helps.

We got Aislynn the Britax Boulevard and I've been really happy with it. Yes, it's pricey but worth the extra expense for my child's safety.
We also have a 4Runner and I don't have any problem getting it in and out. I actually think it's pretty easy to install.
We just bought the Sunshine Kids Radian XTSL for Drew on recommendation from a friend (LaNell Wright - she graduated a year before us) who is a certified carseat expert (or something like that). I really like it - it's narrow and easy to get him in and out of. The only downside in my opinion, is that the installation instructions weren't very intuitive... but that's a small thing, really. One tip: We ordered ours at Bed Bath & Beyond using those 20% coupons they always send out. You have to place a special order in the store, but it saves about $50.
We also use the Maxi Cosi Priori (got it at Target): It was Drew's for a while and we've since handed it down to Olivia. I like that one as well - it has a reclining seat and is easy to get the kids in and out of as well.
Good luck with your search! And if you have access to someone who knows their way around carseats, I would definitely suggest getting their input as well.
I'm seeing a Britax trend. We have bought three different Britax seats (infant, Roundabout and Marathon) which we love and are still in use for multiple kids...the Graco and the Safety First seats only survived one kid. It's worth the price for the safety and durability I think.
Britax seats are big, heavy and cumbersome to move around but I think that's part of what makes them so safe.
Hey, Melissa! K linked me to your website, and I love keeping up with your adventures as Mom, experiencing many of the same phases as me. Thanks for asking this carseat question. I'll be keeping up with these comments as I do my own research for our next carseat. :-)
Hey Melissa! We love Britax too...it gave me peace of mind knowing we were getting (what appears to be) the safest thing out there, even though we spent a little more (although we've bought ours on sale online and avoided sales tax and shipping....definitely do this if you buy Britax!). We bought the Roundabout for Grant when he was turning one....although now looking back I can't remember why we didn't buy a Marathon (it seems to make more sense because it has a higher weight limit). But we knew we wanted more than one child...so when it was time for Drew to graduate from his infant carrier, we moved him to the Roundabout and we bought a Boulevard for Grant (this is the one that turns right into a booster and will definitely be the last one he needs). If you get a Marathon, be sure you get one that's unisex...you don't want to have to buy a new carseat down the road just in case you have a boy and you don't want to put him in a pink carseat!
well, we ended up with the Britax Diplomat... and LOVE it!!! We got a great deal- almost $100 off and free shipping/ no tax at diapers.com. I think for the next baby we are not going to mess with the infant seat we got for Claribel and either get a Britax one or just get another convertible carseat... yeah for a new carseat!
